Farewell Doosoo!

Our farewell dinner for Doosoo at the Madras Diaries in Leidseplein, Amsterdam.

This past month, we bid farewell to Doosoo Yoon who has been a postdoctoral fellow in our group since September 2018. His work focused on using the GRMHD code H-AMR to study the dynamics of accretion disks, winds, and jets around black holes. He is also a member of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project, where his main focus is to study supermassive black holes such as Sgr A* and M87.

For Doosoo’s farewell dinner, we went to The Madras Diaries in Leidseplein to have some authentic South Indian dishes. A big hit for the group were the dosas, which are a crispy savoury crepe made from lentils and rice. We especially enjoyed the mango lassi, which is a mango-based drink made with yogurt and milk.

His farewell gift was quite popular amongst the group. We got him a pair of EHT pyjamas with the EHT M87* black hole image on them. To be quite honest, the pyjamas are so nice that some members of the group considered getting their own pair!

Doosoo, we wish you all the success in your next chapter! “Donut” forget us, and please do come back to visit us at some point.

My interests in Astrophysics are wide-ranging from observational neutral hydrogen studies to X-ray binaries, black hole systems, and simulating and modelling multi-wavelength data. My PhD work will focus on modelling black hole accretion using EHT and multi-wavelength observations.
